Milquetoast & Co.
The Dario Acosta Teich Quintet introduces audiences to unorthodox ways of playing traditional genres from the north of Argentina. The music consists of compositions and original arrangements drawing from jazz, avante-garde, and my strong Latin American folk roots.
Directed by Dario Acosta Teich (guitar, vocals), the project’s founding musicians also include Fernando Huergo (bass), Franco Pinna (drums), Julio Botti (sax) and Leo Genovese (piano). Acosta Teich often invites notable guest musicians to sit in for live performances.
About Dario Acosta Teich
Guitarist/arranger/composer Dario Acosta Teich fuses virtuoso guitar technique and a mastery of Argentine folk music with jazz and avant-garde improvisation. Selected as the unique cultural ambassador by Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to celebrate the 100th birthday of Astor Piazzolla worldwide with his version of Libertango, this “running away from his comfort zone” artist invites audiences on an exhilarating guitar/vocal/percussion journey that introduces unorthodox ways of playing traditional musical genres from the north of Argentina.
Born in Tucuman, Dario was raised in a traditional home filled with folk music. His father, a musician and luthier, brought his young son to peñas (informal gatherings sharing traditional songs). This early immersion ignited Dario’s passion for the guitar and motivated him to enter the University Conservatory training program at the age of eleven.
In 2018, Dario recorded To Fly, his second solo album, in Tel-Aviv. Released by NYC-based Mulatta Records, the seven-track album is a turning point in his relationship with improvisation, a release into his fundamental childhood aspiration - to be able to fly. The intention of each song is to transcend the limits of the guitar, to the point of lift-off. To Fly was nominated for Best Instrumental Album for the Mercedes Sosa Awards in Argentina.
