The five-piece rock group, borne out of dusty basement shows and independent venues of Philadelphia, came out screaming from the start with a sound drawn from jam-band psychedelia, crunchy alt-rock, and powerful indie rock.

John Vettese, of WXPN’s The Key and voice of the Local Show on WXPN 88.5, remarked on Humilitarian’s sound: “...Notes of In Rainbows and Make Yourself; Paramore-esque power screams and dips in the Smashing Pumpkins tone zone; some points trace all the way back to Pink Floyd…As that spectrum of reference points suggest, there’s no easy box to wedge them in; particularly with their release, 2021’s Head In A Jar EP, [Humilitarian] proved to be a little bit mathy, a little bit jammy, a lot of modern rock, and heavy on the psychedelic atmospheres.”
