Lauren Pray started writing music at 12 years old. She has been supported by the likes of Bakithi Kumalo, Paul Simon’s bass player, and Haydn Bendall, Kate Bush’s chief engineer and producer. Her songs are woven with innovative forms and organically shifting time signatures that help tell the stories that possess the song. Her musical influences are Joni Mitchell, Gilberto Gil, Bjork, Peter Gabriel and Ali Farka Touré that result in her music fitting into genres like art pop, afro pop, soft rock, indie folk and bossa nova.
“The blank canvas of a song is silence which can be found in every moment either constantly passing through or forever standing still. Silence will receive any sound we give it just like a pool of water will react to every pebble thrown into it.” She loves this mystery of songwriting and the music she writes reflects this fascination. Lauren is a passionate and a highly creative individual and writes music that is otherworldly, intimate and whimsical.
