Liberation Era

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Jenn Mahoney got their musical start in church and school music classes. They picked up their first guitar at fifteen and performed their first original song a year later. Jenn’s style is a mix of Acoustic Soul, R&B, Folk, Alternative, and Soul. Jenn draws inspiration from a variety of artists and genres (including Lauryn Hill, Emily King, Miguel, James Taylor, and India Arie), and her style has been described as Quiet, Emotional, and Honest.

From Clinton, SC, Kyle Richey’s first introduction to music was through church and singing in his college choir. Kyle’s sound is R&B, Gospel, Folk, and Jazz--attributing his musical influences to artists such as Stevie Wonder, Lalah Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, Bilal, James Taylor, and James Fauntleroy. Kyle has independently released two EPs and is a 2016 nominee of the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.

In response to the swelling of social and civic injustices and subsequent desensitization towards them, Jenn and Kyle formed Liberation Era. A mixture of soul, folk, and r&b, the duo uses their unique voices through storytelling, to illuminate the interconnectedness of our humanity.
