Michael Kehr is a New York City based singer songwriter, His distinctive vocal tone is complemented by his keen songwriting ability and melodic flare. A storyteller at Heart, his songs will pull you in with every word, and leave you wanting more.

In 1983, Michael and his brothers Donnie (keyboards) and Steve (drums) formed the backbone of the band “URGENT” and added Yul Vazquez (lead guitar) and Klyph Black (bass) to complete the group. In just one short year, URGENT was signed by Manhattan Records. Their first effort was “CAST THE FIRST STONE” with the lead single “RUNNING BACK,” produced by Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople) and Mick Ronson (David Bowie). Michael co-wrote 4 songs with Ian Hunter on “CAST” which was released in 1984.

The second album was titled “THINKING OUT LOUD” with the single “CAN’T TAKE IT NO MORE” produced by Tom Allom (Judas Priest and Def Leopard). With two music videos and two albums to their credit, “URGENT” disbanded in 1987.

In the years that followed, Michael formed the “The Michael Kehr Project,” a stripped-down, 4-piece band with attitude and edge – providing the perfect platform for Michael to display his vocal dexterity. With Alex Alexander on drums, Tony Bridges on bass and Chris Delis on lead guitar, this band unfortunately was short lived, but also the one “that got away” as Michael puts it.

In 1990 After the birth of his daughter Ani and his son Alex, Michaels focus turned to his family. It wasn’t until 2012 when Michael resurfaced, brushed off the dust from his Acoustic and With the help of his son now an audio engineer and his daughter a very talented singer/songwriter in her own right, began writing new songs, and recording demos. Michael released his first solo album in 2016 appropriately called “BARE BONES” and followed up with his 2nd solo album in 2019 “SOMEBODY’S IN MY HOUSE” both albums very personal, and Heartfelt. Michael is now writing and recording songs for a 3rd album, reuniting with his friends from the “Michael Kehr Project” with the addition of Tommy Mandel on keyboards. Michael has returned to relevance in the world of popular music and has no intention of stopping anytime soon.
