Mya Byrne & Friends
Mya Byrne is an award-winning songwriter, poet, pundit, multi-instrumentalist, and proud trans dyke. She’s been featured on national TV, NPR, People, The Advocate, and many festival bills, including SF Trans Pride, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. She was the first solo trans woman to perform at SF's Dyke March and at the Folsom Street Fair, and has shared stages with her heroes, including Rae Spoon, Steve Forbert, S. Bear Bergman, and Levon Helm. She’s also lectured at such institutions as SUNY, UC Berkeley, and the Pacific School of Religion.
In addition to her solo career, she produces music and plays with many artists onstage and in the studio, including The Homobiles, fronted by Lynn Breedlove (formerly of Tribe 8). Mya’s own music has been favorably compared to Lucinda Williams by way of Nick Drake, and challenges the expectation of queer trans women in folk and Americana. Since 2017, she's also toured and recorded with the legendary Lavender Country.
