Orion and the Melted Crayons
Orion and the Melted Crayons creates their signature sound by blending developing lyrics, intricate harmonies and musicality in a refreshing manner. With a penchant for finding the joy in the world, TMC contrasts soaring highs and everyday vibes with poignant pain atop a bed of sweet chords and interlocking rhythm. Orion Faruque’s songwriting is centered around hope being our umbrella from the world. As the Melted Crayons, the band's musical friendship brings a dynamic and conversational feel to the songs. They are constantly learning from each other and expanding their musical knowledge. Recent Releases 2018.11.17: Take a Nap Single Built on Orion's intricate guitar and direct vocals written in September of 2018, the "Take A Nap" single is reminiscent of a summer spent with a friend or lover so comfortable to be near that words aren't necessary. The supporting harmony of the Nan’s vocals, Elie’s violin and Andrews piano work with the songwriting to create a singular Melted Crayon sound. 2018.05.21: Breathe E.P. Orion was stranded at Orchard Hill Studios after playing the 2018 Saluda Art Festival and decided to make it count. He challenged himself to compose a new piece, record 4 songs and release an EP in 24 hours. After a Sunday morning spent writing Champagne, Orion called Ryan over to spend the afternoon tracking and a following night mixing. 24 long hours later, a collection of 2 of Orion's newest songs pair with 2 of his older favorites on the Breathe E.P.
Asher McGlothlin
Asher McGlothlin is a musician based out of Charlottesville, Virginia, but proud to be from Grundy, Virginia, a small town located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Asher grew up playing guitar and singing in the choir at his church on Sundays while also being inspired by the bluegrass and southern rock that played throughout his hometown. All of these genres flow together in his music to create a sonic experience that pays tribute to one of America’s most rich and unique music cultures, while taking on a unique life all its own.
Asher’s debut EP Bardo was released on January 9th, 2018. The term bardo is a Buddhist term that means the intermediate state between two lives on earth. The bardo can be pleasant or treacherous, depending on one’s perspective. Asher views the transition from youth to adulthood as being a transitional period similar to the bardo, and view the songs on this EP as telling the story of his own experience in this intermediate state.
In March of 2018, Asher began a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, a journey that lasted nearly 6 months and saw him travel over 2,000 miles. Asher has since returned to Charlottesville with a mind flourishing with musical inspiration that he is now ready to share with the world.
