P.J. O'Connor
New York native and multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter P.J. O’Connor is a veteran performer and seasoned musician (The Bogmen, Radio 4) who has collaborated with a variety of iconic artists including Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads) and Gordon Gano (Violent Femmes). His critically acclaimed solo album, Television’s Golden Age, was called “…an impressive debut” by Relix Magazine and “A superb solo album...flush with optimism and exuberance” by Goldmine, in addition to being selected for Albumism’s “100 Best Albums of 2020”. O’Connor’s three self-released videos were directed by Emmy® Award-winning cinematographer Chris Cassidy (Dennis & Lois, Keanu Reeves) and his music has recently been featured on the CBS television shows NCIS: Los Angeles and INSTIИCT.
Television’s Golden Age is a gloriously quirky combo of catchy fun and wistful melancholy that reveal the depth of his bright yet intimate songwriting as well as the soulful heart beating behind New York City’s chaotic, gritty exterior. O’Connor’s Irish roots led him to busk in local pubs across Ireland while writing many of the songs, which often reflect the mossy spiritual sunshine of Van Morrison combined with Michael Kiwanuka’s funky folk and the street-noir poetry of Tom Waits. The first single, “Indecisive Moon”, was dubbed “…a 21st-century Manhattan anthem” by the Bay Area Reporter, whose chorus definitively mirrors his love affair with The Big Apple: “May the lights of New York City shine on me wherever I go.”
Drummer Parker Kindred (Jeff Buckley), bassist Brad Truax (Interpol) and Grammy®-nominated vocalist Leslie Mendelson (Jackson Browne) guest on the album and his music has been featured on the CBS television shows NCIS: Los Angeles and INSTIИCT. A sold-out reunion event with his previous band The Bogmen is scheduled for September 11 at Webster Hall in NYC and new music is currently being recorded by the group with more live shows and a possible album in the works.
