When asked why he moved to Brooklyn in 2004, Mikey Monteiro has a pretty standard answer, “it’s that small town suburban sprawl disconnect thing. I started running off to the city from Connecticut at 15 to drink in the Lower East Side. Moving here seemed like the right way to get out for good.”

Couch crashing, odd jobs, and endless bands brought Monteiro and Riverwild to the place they are now. “A lot of what I love with music is anthemic yet hazy, dark yet euphoric, where the songs are concerned with redemption either by God, substance, or women, and often, the confusing embrace of what feels like all three at once.”
