Saleka

24-year-old Saleka left behind years of classical piano training to begin pursuing R&B music at age 16. She now recalls this passiondriven, teen rebellion moment as a pivotal one as she’s on the cusp of releasing her first full-length body of work, 2021’s singular Séance. The debut incorporates her over a decade of classical training while she creates a sound both entirely new and also deeply rooted in the world of jazz, R&B, singer-songwriter, and neo soul. Each song compliments the next, the album serving as a free-flowing stream of consciousness as Saleka—who writes, produces, and plays instruments throughout—walks listeners through her experiences as if you are getting to read her personal journal.

Though she has a full body of work in Séance, Saleka has also been hard at work on other endeavors, including a song called “The Sky Cries” that appears during an episode of the second season of her father’s, M. Night Shyamalan, Apple+ series Servant and a brand new song called "Remain" which will be featured in the iconic director's forthcoming film, "Old".

Nestling in among musical peers like Snoh Allegra, Daniel Caesar, H.E.R, and Mereba, Saleka may be new to the scene, but her songs feel timeless. “I am definitely entrenched in old school influences, but I also have a deep love for the new alternative R&B and crossover genres that have been developing. It’s an inspiring time to be a musician,” she says.
