Teorema emerged as a result of 3 of the former members of World/Inferno (Ellie Goodman, Matthew Landis, and Brendan Furey) talking about how they wished they could play music together again. They set about making this a reality and, as befit their legacy as a part of the original cabaret-circus-punk collective, they set out in Jack's spirit to write songs about and for friends to the friendless. Their music, since they began this endeavor, has spanned many styles and genres, as one would expect given our lineage and training. You might catch tango, cabaret, jazz, country, traditional ballads from the UK, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, or Scott Walker. We are, at turns, melancholy and contemplative, and at other insouciant and defiant. It really depends on whom we're addressing, their posture, and how collectively hungover we are. We are more interested in being creative together and honoring our friend than doing the sorts of things a band typically. This is, in the truest and most unspoiled sense, a passion project—because it was conceived as a way to carry on amongst immense and immeasurable loss. We only hope it helps you as much as it helps us.
